What is Community Acupuncture
Community acupuncture is a nationwide movement to create access to acupuncture for many people by removing the barrier of cost from healing. Generally, people need more than one treatment to resolve health complaints and community acupuncture offers a way to continue with regular sessions, often weekly for a set of treatments. Community Acupuncture clinics offer treatment in a group setting and charge on a sliding scale.
We do not receive any subsidies or grants. What keeps the clinic open is that clients pay what they can afford for their sessions, and in many cases, they share their experience with others. If you know someone who can benefit from acupuncture, please spread the word.
“Walking into the acupuncture clinic I was surprised how calm and peaceful the entire setting was, I felt like I was with people, and there was a beautiful sense of harmony, the atmosphere was very professional and I immediately felt safe and cared for”
– Kathy, Seguin, ON
Community acupuncture is an open space, we ask that you enter quietly and use quiet voices to be respectful to everyone. A basket is provided for your personal items that will go under your chair. Feel free to bring a light sheet or blanket if you tend to get chilly.
Appointment & Hours
Community Acupuncture appointments are available on Thursdays from 12:30pm to 6:00pm (last booking at 5:00pm)
St James Centre for Community, 24 Mary Street, Parry Sound, ON P2A 1T6
Please refrain from perfumes and strong scented products.
You will be surrounded by other people quietly receiving treatment at the same time while seated. Clients benefit many ways from the community setting. In our busy society, it is not often we stop and take time to relax while surrounded by our peers. This is not a lack of privacy but an opportunity to experience treatment with family, friends and community. As with any intentional group endeavor, the shared state makes individual treatments more powerful. Here, the clients create the healing atmosphere as much as the practitioner.
The acupuncture needles are hair-thin sterile one time use and are placed mainly on the limbs, scalp, and ears. Points on the scalp, ear, below the elbows and knees can be used to treat the entire body, so there’s no need to undress – just remove your shoes and roll up your pants and sleeves. And yes, you can even get back relief with points on your hands and feet.
The needle retention time is between 20-45 minutes.
The purpose of the sliding scale is to help separate the issues of money and treatment in order to adhere to the course of treatment. Acupuncture is most effective when done frequently and regularly to make progress. We want you to come in often enough to really get better and stay better.
$20 – $40: You decide what you can afford on any given day.
Keep in mind that we also have financial obligations, so please pay what you can. This way you get the treatment that you need and we get to keep providing it for you. We hope this will be a sustainable arrangement that everyone benefits from.
Debit, Cash, Credit Card.
If you have extended health benefits that cover registered acupuncturist (check with your provider to make sure they do). We provide receipts for all visits.
